Food-grade pearlescent pigments are special colorants with a pearlescent luster. They produce a unique visual experience through precisely controlled optical effects, rather than relying on chemical chromophores to absorb specific wavelengths of light, as traditional colorants do. The core structure of this pigment is based on a microstructure of a thin, flake-like substrate coated with a high-refractive-index metal oxide. When light shines on these parallel flakes, partial reflection and partial transmission occur. The interaction of multiple layers of reflected light ultimately creates interference colors with a sense of depth and three-dimensionality, which is the pearlescent effect we observe.
